Frequently Asked Questions

  1. I saw this neat camera, how do I get it listed?

See if you can find a UPC or manufacturer part number for it, and then see if it already exists. If you find it then join the swarm and set your membership details. If you don't find it, feel free to add it. If you can't find a UPC or manufacturer part number (or any other distinguishing serial number such as ISBN, etc), just go ahead and search by keywords. Remember though, a swarm of one is just you, so make a good attempt to find an existing swarm.
  2. What happens after I join a Swarm?

Now you can browse any existing offers or, if there aren't any offers, you'll need to wait for a seller to make one. A seller can offer to fulfill any portion of the Swarm's demands. For instance, a seller may only have 100 of the item you want to buy, and so may make an offer for 100 of the item for a given price. Once offers have been made orders are on a first-come first-serve basis. At any point that an offer is on the table a seller can choose to lock it at which point everyone who succeeded in making an order is notified that the offer is locked. At this time you can either cancel your order or confirm it to move forward.
  3. I've just been locked into an offer but I want out!!

That's OK, just cancel your order. There's no obligation unless you've confirmed your order.
  4. I've confirmed my order but now I've changed my mind and I want out!

You can cancel your order still, but the seller will still have the opportunity to rate you. You can also post a comment to your order requesting that the seller reject your order in which case it is at the seller's discretion. The whole point in confirming your order is to indicate your willingness to continue and to provide the seller with a level of guarantee that the offer can be filled. Only confirm an order you intend to complete.
  5. If I buy something how do I know I'll get it?

We work under a reputation system as it has been established by the ratings and comments posted by buyers on SwarmBuy.com. Additionally sellers can pay nominal fees for us to verify their posted phone number and mailing address. Additionally, all of a seller's details are available to logged in users. If you live in the seller's region it should be possible to verify their legitimacy. If you come across a seller that you know to be fraudulent, please take the time to report them so other users can be protected. Having said that, we strongly suggest using PayPal, Credit Cards, or Escrow to make your purchases. These have the advantage of providing protection to the buyer. Sellers can also indicate that they accept pickup and pay as an option. This means if you are in their physical vicinity you can go on site to pickup and pay for your order.
  6. Your site is uber ugly... What loozer designed it?

Me :( I'm a coder, not a designer. Sorry you don't like it. I'll try harder next time :/
  7. Your site is so mediocre... Who the heck designed it?

    Me :|
  8. Your site is uber cool... What master of the art designed it?

Me :)) Thanks, I'm going to feel all warm and fuzzy for a week now.
  9. I'm a big geek so I looked at your HTML and you seem to know your way around CSS and yet look at all those tables!! What gives?

Well, I could spend eternity trying to get perfect CSS compliance, or I could use tables for the questionable areas of CSS support and have a functional site already you insensitive clod >:)
  10. I'm still reading... how come the questions suck now?

I lost touch with reality about 4 questions ago and now I'm just adding some fun to my boring life at 4am on Tuesday the 18th of October (2006) when I should be sleeping. Actually that's a lie, I don't have a boring life, I have a wife and two kids... WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!! Ok, ok, I'm going to bed now.
